Thergothon
One of the linchpin acts of the funeral-doom genre, Finland-based band Thergothon’s influence long outlasted the band’s own life cycle. Formed in 1990, the band only ever released one demo and one full-length album. Still, Thergothon experimented with the fusion of death metal with gloomy dirge metal long before the term funeral-doom existed. With lyrics inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, Thergothon’s music was ritual-like and morose. Following the band’s breakup in 1993, two of the original members formed This Empty Flow.
