The Last Artful, Dodgr

Operating under the name the Last Artful, Dodgr, Portland-based singer and rapper Alana Chenevert developed an unusual, left-field pop-based sound over eclectic releases like 2013's 199NVRLND mixtape, the 2017 Neill Von Tally collaboration Bone Music, and a guest spot on Anderson .Paak's "Anywhere." Her artful mix of R&B, hip-hop, and pop carried her into the next decade with tracks like the 2020 standout "Better Safe Than Social" and 2022's "Hullabaloo." Chenevert grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from Humboldt State University where she was active both as a hip-hop MC and local radio DJ. Recording as the Last Artful, Dodgr, she made her debut with the 2013 mixtape 199NVRLND. The diverse LP validated her PR sheet, which listed Nina Simone, Sufjan Stevens, Prince, and Kraftwerk among her influences. That same year, she left L.A. and moved to Portland, where her debut caught the ear of the locally based Fresh Selects. She signed with the label, and in 2015 released the Fractures EP with production from Neill Von Tally. A year later she partnered with beatmaker DJ WNTD for the single "Squadron" as well as releasing a collaborative EP called Rare Treat with Myke Bogan. Led by the song "Oofda," Chenevert and Von Tally released the collaborative Bone Music LP in early 2017. Along with her own single "Win Is Enough," 2018 saw her join Snoop Dogg on Anderson .Paak's track "Anyway," introducing her to a wider audience. After 2020's double-single "Hot" b/w "Wrong Way," Chenevert issued the self-reliant anthem "Better Safe Than Social," a track that resonated with fans during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Two more tracks, "Lightwork" and "Hullabaloo," arrived over the next two years
