The Mary Wallopers
The Mary Wallopers, hailing from Dundalk, County Louth, are a folk group that blends Irish musical traditions with themes of social struggle. The group started as a trio with the Hendy brothers, Charles and Andrew, and their friend Sean McKenna. They expanded in 2022, welcoming Róisín Barrett, Brendan McInerney, Seamus Hyland, and Finnian O'Connor, enriching their sound with bass, drums, accordion, and the quintessential Irish tin whistle and uilleann pipes. Though the band has been active since the release of their 2019 debut EP A Mouthful of the Mary Wallopers, they gained a following during the COVID-19 lockdowns by live-streaming performances from their home. This surge in popularity led to the release of their self-titled debut album in October 2022. The following year, they returned with their sophomore effort Irish Rock n Roll, which reached number 42 on the Top 100 of the UK Albums Chart.
