Nick Finzer

Nick Finzer, celebrated as a “Rising Star” in jazz by DownBeat Critics Poll, is renowned for his innovative compositions and mastery on the trombone. His journey into jazz began with a fascination for Duke Ellington, leading him to significant educational milestones at the Eastman School of Music and The Juilliard School under Steve Turre’s mentorship. Nick Finzer has not only gained acclaim as a bandleader with seven albums to his credit, but also as an entrepreneur in the music industry. His notable achievements include a Grammy nomination with Anat Cohen's Tentet, the title of "Rising Star Trombonist" by DownBeat Magazine in 2020, and an ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award. Nick Finzer's album, Dreams, Visions, Illusions (2023), is backed by the prestigious New Jazz Works grant from Chamber Music America. His extensive performance history includes sharing stages with jazz legends like Wynton Marsalis and playing at iconic venues worldwide. Beyond performance, Nick Finzer impacts the jazz scene through Outside in Music, his record label, and as a sought-after educator, currently the inaugural Assistant Professor of Jazz Trombone at the University of North Texas.
