Mokira

One of many aliases of post-digital techno experimentalist Andreas Tilliander, Mokira began with a one-off album (2000’s CLIPHOP) for German minimal electronic label Raster-Noton. Initially exploring the intersection between twitchy hip-hop-influenced beats and gauzy digital ambience, Tilliander began gradually moving away from beat-oriented works in favor of pure soundscapes influenced by shoegaze and ambient electronic artists. Mokira signed to the influential Mille Plateaux label, releasing a second album, PLEE, in 2002. When Mille Plateaux folded in 2004, Tilliander began releasing on a variety of smaller labels, eventually settling at U.K. imprint Type for his critically acclaimed 2009 release, PERSONA.
