Micah Tyler

A singer and songwriter who uses contemporary pop music frameworks to share his spiritual beliefs, Micah Tyler rose from social media stardom to become a well-respected artist in the contemporary Christian music community. Tyler's songs are polished contemporary pop with elements of R&B and hip-hop folded in, while his emotive vocals lend a faint country feel to the music. While a funny online video first spread his name, Tyler's 2017 album Different showed off his serious side as well as the depth of his commitment to his faith, with 2020's New Today building on the strength of that album's success. Micah Tyler Begnaud was born in Beaumont, Texas on April 19, 1983. He grew up in a loving and supportive Christian household, but despite his love of music, Tyler was something of a late bloomer, dividing his time between driving a truck and serving as a youth pastor in Buna, Texas into his late twenties. When Tyler did hear the call to use his talent in the service of the Lord, he was already married and a father of three kids, but once he committed himself to his faith and his music, he didn't look back. By 2013, Tyler had self-released his first album, The Story I Tell, and he was playing up to 200 dates a year at college campuses, youth events, and leadership conferences, primarily in the South and Southwest. A four-song release, The Kitchen Sink EP, followed in 2014. In May of 2016, Tyler experienced an unexpected career breakthrough when a humorous video he made for a church leaders' conference, "You've Gotta Love Millennials," became a viral hit after it was posted online, racking up over 65 million views across several platforms. While the video exposed a wide audience to the funny side of Tyler's musical personality, his serious and spiritual side won an audience when his song "Never Been a Moment" made an impression on Christian radio. The song appeared on Tyler's EP Different, which was his first release for the independent Christian label Fair Trade Services. The EP was a preview of Tyler's second full-length album, also called Different, which Fair Trade brought out in October 2017; the LP rose to number 23 on the Christian Albums chart, and spawned three singles that made the Top Ten of the Christian Singles chart, "Never Been a Moment," "Even Then," and the title cut. Tyler made an appearance as a singer in a coffee shop in the 2018 film God Bless the Broken Road, and he stayed busy touring, playing as many as 200 dates a year. In October of 2019, Tyler delivered a new single, "Amen," which peaked at number nine on the Christian Singles chart. "Amen" was the first salvo from his third album, New Today, which came out on Fair Trade in April 2020.
