Los Aptos

Midwestern indie pop outfit Los Aptos are known for their wistfully romantic, ballad-heavy style, a sound that helped spearhead the regional Mexican style often referred to as sad sierreño. They first garnered attention online in 2020 when their bedroom-recorded EP Mis Illusiones hit the Top 100 of Latin streaming charts. A year later, they gained even wider attention with their single "Enamorado," off their 2021 full-length debut Del Corazon. With each new album, the band's sound has matured and grown more sophisticated, as evidenced by 2021's Lluvia y Sol, 2022's Historia Pa Contrar, and 2023's Descifrar. Hailing from Fort Wayne, Indiana, Los Aptos was formed in 2019 by lead-singer/songwriter Juan Ortega. Growing up, he was exposed to his Mexican-born parents' banda LPs. He also developed an interest in rap and indie rock. While still in high school, he taught himself to play guitar and began posting covers songs online with friend and bassist Jony Rivera. Originals followed and the duo eventually brought keyboardist and producer Daniel Isaias Vaides on board. In 2020, they released their home-recorded EP Mis Illusiones, which included the song "Eres Tu." The track went viral. The following year, they released the single "Enamorado, which also went viral, racking up thousands of streams and paving the way for the group's debut full-length, Del Corazon. A second album also arrived that year with Lluvia y Sol. The band eventually signed a partnership with noted Latin and Mexican regional indie label VPS Music and Warner Music Latina. They returned in 2022 with Historia Pa Contrar, featuring the single "Confiar en Mí." A fourth full-length, Descifrar, arrived in 2023 and featured the single "Hace Mucho Tiempo," as well as collaborations with DannyLux and Cuco.
