Jon Egan

A worship leader and songwriter for Colorado-headquartered New Life Church, Jon Egan has collaborated with musicians including Jeremy Camp, Jason Ingram, and Kari Jobe during his time with the church and as a member of alternative CCM group Desperation Band. Adopting a similarly reflective, atmospheric style of Christian rock, he presented his first solo album, Unveil, in 2019. Shortly after joining New Life Church in Colorado Springs around the turn of the millennium, Jon Egan founded Desperation Band with Jared Anderson and Glenn Packiam. Part of the church's worship ministry, the group grew to include several members of the congregation, with a rotating lineup led by Egan. Desperation Band debuted with the album Desperation in 2003, following a year later with From the Rooftops. The latter included the Egan-penned song "I Am Free," which became a hit for the Newsboys when they covered it in 2006. In the meantime, Desperation Band released Who You Are in 2006, following it with Everyone Overcome in 2007. Both of those albums reached the Top 30 of the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart. The group made their first appearance on the Billboard 200 with their fifth album, Light Up the World, in 2009, peaking at number 159. They cracked the Billboard 200 again with 2012's Center of It All. Featuring the church hit "On the Throne," which was written by Egan, 2014's Banner: Live from Desperation Conference reached the Christian Top 10 and number 154 on the U.S. album chart. Egan collaborated with songwriters including Chris McClarney, Mitch Wong, and Jason Ingram for his solo debut. Released by Integrity Music in 2019, Unveil was recorded live across several services at New Life Church, including the 2018 Desperation Conference with over 4,000 teens in attendance.
