Foxx Bodies

A rawly confessional act in the vein of Bikini Kill and Sleater-Kinney, Foxx Bodies spill their guts about mental illness, sexual abuse, and other uncomfortable truths. The band introduced their volatile surf-punk with 2016's Foxx Bodies (which they recorded in a day) and gave a sharper, cleaner edge to their sound on 2021's Vixen. Vocalist Bella Vanek, guitarist Bailey Moses, bassist Matt Vanek, and drummer Adam Bucholz were housemates in Tuscon, Arizona when they formed Foxx Bodies so Vanek could have loud music to scream to as a therapeutic outlet as she processed her childhood abuse. Eventually, her primal scream sessions took the form of cathartic songs that mixed punk and surf, and the band's first gig was opening the release show for Lando Chill's 2016 album For Mark, Your Son. That March, they recorded their first demos, with the What a Tease! EP following that April. In August, they released their self-titled debut album, which they recorded in the living room of their friend and fellow musician Ben Schneider. Eventually, Foxx Bodies relocated to Los Angeles, signed to Kill Rock Stars, and started work on their second album with John Goodmanson and Erik Blood. Early in 2020, they issued the first single from the album, "Victim One/Know Your Rights." However, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, Foxx Bodies postponed the release of the full-length. Ultimately arriving in November 2021, Vixen cleaned up the edges of the band's sound slightly but still offered plenty of unflinchingly frank songs.
