Charles Pasi
Born in Paris to an Italian father and French mother on February 8, 1984, Charles Pasi is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose music is influenced by blues, jazz, and pop/rock. He sang with a gospel choir during his teenage years and studied jazz in college, then made his debut as a solo artist with a self-produced EP, Mainly Blue, in 2006. The record earned him an invitation the Memphis International Blues Challenge, where he competed and emerged as a finalist. After appearing in the 2007 movie Actrices and contributing to the film's score, Charles Pasi released another EP, Uncaged, in 2009. The EP shared its name with Pasi's full-length debut, which followed in 2011 and featured appearances by jazz legends like saxophonist Archie Shepp. The Uncaged album also spent a pair of weeks of the French charts, where it peaked at Number 129. Charles Pasi's follow-up release, Sometimes Awake, fared far better, climbing to Number 22 in 2014 and paving the way for his subsequent contract with Blue Note Records, which made him the first French artist to sign with the legendary jazz label. Blue Note Records released Bricks in 2017, and Pasi supported the album's arrival with a long string of international tour dates that took him from China to the Netherlands. He remained with Blue Note for 2021's Zebra, an album whose mix of acoustic and electric textures mirrored Charles Pasi's long-running commitment to diversity.
