Bethlehem Steel

Led by the visceral delivery of lead singer and songwriter Rebecca Ryskalczyk, the fuzzy, hooky indie rock of Bethlehem Steel emerged from Brooklyn in 2013 with their debut EP Grow Up. Meanwhile drawing comparisons to acts spanning Waxahatchee and Courtney Barnett, they made their made their full-length debut with 2017's Party Naked Forever. Formed in Brooklyn in 2012, the original lineup of Bethlehem Steel comprised singer/guitarist Ryskalczyk, drummer Jon Gernhart, and bassist Zephyr Prusinski. Ryskalczyk and Gernhart met while playing in different bands as students at SUNY Fredonia, but they joined forces after both settled down in Brooklyn. At the time, Ryskalczyk was a member of the borough's D.I.Y. scene while Gernhart worked as a sound engineer. After putting together some songs, the trio released their debut EP, Grow Up, via Miscreant Records in 2013. Another EP, Docking, followed on the same label in 2015. In 2016, after a brief stint with Peter Katz, the band welcomed Patrick Ronayne to the fold on bass. In the meantime, a positive response to their appearance at that year's South by Southwest included mention on NPR's All Songs Considered. Bethlehem Steel signed with the Exploding in Sound label for their first album, 2017's Party Naked Forever. Shortly after its release, guitarist/vocalist Christina Puerto expanded the lineup to a quartet. In late 2018, Bethlehem Steel presented a split EP with lo-fi punks Washer before issuing their second long-player, 2019's Bethlehem Steel.
