Amusement Parks On Fire
British outfit Amusement Parks on Fire are known for their lyrical, emotionally resonant noise-pop and shoegaze sound. Led by Michael Feerick, the group first garnered buzz with their 2004 self-titled debut and their 2005 sophomore effort, Out of Angeles. They have continued to carve out a distinctive niche with their sonically textural mix of guitars and synths, as on 2010's Road Eyes and 2021's An Archaea.
Formed in 2004 in Nottingham, England, Amusement Parks on Fire initially began as the solo project of singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Michael Feerick. Feerick wrote and recorded the band's first album on his own before the age of 20; a self-titled debut released in 2004 on Geoff Barrow of Portishead's Invada Records. He subsequently put together a live band and returned in 2006 with Out of Angeles, which he recorded partly at Sigur Rós' Sundlaugin Studio in Álafoss, Iceland. That same year, the group embarked on a co-headlining tour with noise-rock outfit Scarling and delivered a series of EPs including Blackout, In Flight, A Star Is Born, and Young Fight.
In 2010, they delivered their third full-length album, Road Eyes, recorded in Los Angeles with Michael Patterson. Included on the album was the track "Flashlight Planetarium," featuring a guest appearance by Brian Aubert of Silversun Pickups. Taking a break from Amusement Parks on Fire, Feerick collaborated with Giant Drag's Micah Calabrese, forming the duo Young Light and releasing the EPs Great White Arc and Blank Dice.
Feerick returned to Amusement Parks on Fire with the 2017 EP All the New Ends and a European tour. An eighth EP, Thankyou Violin Radiopunk, followed a year later. This led up to the release of the band's fourth full-length, An Archaea, which arrived in June 2021.
