Through feature-length and animated films, Tim Burton has created a fascinating world of cinema over the last thirty years where poetic wonders meet gothic aesthetic and macabre humor. With few exceptions, he worked on most of his films with a specific composer, Danny Elfman. Without Burton’s images, Elfman’s music would not feel the same, and vice-versa. In 2019, the two artists proved this one more time with their last collaboration: the deeply moving "Dumbo".
Forty years after its release, David Byrne and his band’s album “Remain in Light” has held on to all of its mad and funky allure. The album’s merging of intellectual post-punk with cosmopolitan dance music influenced groups such as LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend and Arcade Fire. On this fourth album produced by Brian Eno, the Talking Heads revolutionized their sound, but also that of rock itself.
“If punk was about getting rid of hippies, then I'm getting rid of grunge.” It was with this sentence from Damon Albarn in 1993 that England invaded the stage previously dominated by Nirvana and Seattle grunge. Britpop is deeply linked to politics and local identity and emerged just as Tony Blair and New Labour were entering the scene. English romanticism was once again becoming attractive compared to the American identity, which was considered too hollow in the UK. Make way for “Cool Britannia”.
