About Playlist
As a young girl, Corinne Bailey Rae joined the choir at her local Baptist church in Leeds. Under the sign of a lucky star, she received her first electric guitar from the choirmaster, who had spotted her precocious talent. And so it was that the girl whom the divine spirit seemed to protect began to compose and write her own songs. Proof of the teenager's talent came when her group made a name for itself on the local scene and signed a contract with a record label. Unfortunately, the adventure came to an end and Corinne began to work in a jazz club in Leeds, where she was allowed on stage with the musicians from time to time to sing. Patient, the talented composer waited until 2005 to release her first album. She was rewarded for her work, rocketing to the top of the UK charts and earning three Grammy Award nominations, including Best Album. Her fame led to her being called by Channel 24 for a live performance in the Abbey Road studio during the filming of a documentary. The artist was bereaved by the death of her husband from an overdose in 2008, and she delayed an album reflecting her grief for two years. 2016 marked a turning point in her career with the release of The Heart Speaks In Winter, a mature album that the artist had prepared with the utmost care.
