Log Variations

A peculiar blend of sound collage, field recording, and experimental electronic music, Log Variations first appeared in 2021 as a mixed media project pertaining exclusively to the nature of logs, forestry, and woodcraft in various forms. Its output ranges from manipulated recordings of campfire sounds to photographs and videos of impressive firewood stacks and other log-related behavior. Both in its audio and visual presentations, Log Variations is devoted to the appreciation and culture of logs. Its first release, a four-track cassette EP, arrived in early 2021 and featured four sparse tracks of similar length containing the same sample of crackling fire sounds, each one layered with surprising, often psychedelic textures, sound effects, and analog synth tones.
