Burning Star Core
Ostensibly the solo project of Cincinnati-based multi-instrumentalist/composer C. Spencer Yeh, Burning Star Core combines Yeh--a classically-trained violinist--with a revolving cast of underground luminaries including Thurston Moore, Comets on Fire, and Chris Corsano. In 1993, Yeh started his Dronedisco imprint, documenting BSC’s flourishing catalog of free/noise music ranging from head-splitting walls of drone, to subtler improvisational interplay and voice-sound experiments. Despite the group’s grounding in more established avant-garde forms of the past, they slotted easily into the resurgent extreme noise scene of the ‘00s, turning out acclaimed releases for bastions of transgressive music such as No Fun and Hospital.
