First released as a limited edition on Record Store Day 2020, Live At Alice Tully Hall (January 27, 1973 - 2nd Show) has now arrived in digital version in Hi-Res quality. A real treat for Lou Reed fans, this is the former Velvet Underground frontman's first New York solo concert. A date on his Transformer tour where he is accompanied by hardworking, forgotten sidemen (who are not the ones from his studio recordings): bassist Bobby Resigno, drummer Scottie Clark and guitarist Eddie Reynolds... In 1973, few songwriters dipped their pens in dark black inkwells of dope, death, depravity and desperation. But while these heavy themes weren't a great draw for the general public, Lou didn't care, he become a brilliant ambassador for these dark areas of the human soul. Especially since this prose always comes wrapped up in simple but highly effective melodies. Here he takes up Velvet classics such as Heroin mixed with elements from his solo repertoire including the famous Walk on the Wild Side. There can be no doubt: he's the bard of the Big Apple, the poet laureate of the pavements, the troubadour of inner-city gloom: since 1973, no-one else has ever come close. © Marc Zisman/Qobuz
