“Nothing burns like the cold”. Swedish singer Snoh Aalegra proves it with an incendiary first album released on NO I.D.’s ARTium label. Spotted in 2016 with her EP Don't Explain humbly described as a mini-album, her velvety voice has already been sampled by Drake (Do Not Disturb). Growing up in Sweden with the music of Stevie Wonder, Snoh Aalegra − whose Iranian and English roots give her a mixed air of Eva Mendes and Natalie Portman – took off for Los Angeles where she recorded Feels. Feels, a languid dive into the sweaty soul of Isaac Hayes (Nothing Burns Like The Cold) with Vince Staples, the grandiloquence of Shirley Bassey (You Keep Me Waiting with Vic Mensa) and the deep soul of Amy Winehouse (Walls), also draws from Jackson’s pop and Aaliyah and Mary J. Blige’s syrupy R&B of the 2000s for thirteen excellent tracks. Not to mention that under this layer of influences, the Swedish queen in the making reveals a cinematographic singularity in Technicolor.
