Jae Young

South Korean singer and actor Young-Jae is known for his electronic-, R&B-, and hip-hop-influenced pop. He first garnered attention as the main vocalist in the K-Pop outfit B.A.P. before launching his solo career with his 2019 EPs Fancy and O,on. Along with music, Young-Jae has appeared on several TV series, including 2020's Mr. Queen and 2021's Police University. Born Yoo Young-Jae in 1994 in Seoul, South Korea, Young-Jae first became interested in performing in middle school after entering a talent show with his friends. He began taking music lessons and started auditioning at various music agencies. While in high school, he became a trainee with JYP Entertainment, but left the company and signed with TS Entertainment. In 2012, he became the main vocalist in the six-member K-Pop band B.A.P., debuting with the Top 40 Goan-charting single "Warrior." The group remained chart favorites over the next few years, hitting number one in Korea with their full-length 2014 debut, First Sensibility, and number two with 2016's Noir. Following the break-up of B.A.P. in 2019, Young-Jae launched his solo career, founding his own independent J World label. That same year, he released his debut mini-album, Fancy, which reached number 15 on the Goan chart. He also began acting, starring in the drama Woman of 9.9 Billion. A second mini-album, O,on, arrived in October 2019 and hit number 20 in Korea. More acting roles followed, including starring parts in the 2020 historical drama Mr. Queen and the 2021 series Police University.
