Roy Orbison était un chanteur, auteur-compositeur et musicien particulièrement important dans le paysage musical américain. Son intérêt précoce pour la musique l'a amené à former un groupe, The Wink Westerners, pendant son adolescence. Le chemin de la célébrité commence lorsqu'il signe avec Sun Records en 1956, mais c'est avec Monument Records qu'il se fait connaître en 1959. En 1960, Orbison sort "Only the Lonely", qui marque le début d'une série de tubes qui détermineront sa carrière. Il se distingue rapidement grâce à sa voix d'une beauté envoûtante et ses ballades chargées d'émotion. Parmi ses succès les plus marquants, citons "Crying", "In Dreams" et "Oh, Pretty Woman". Tout au long de sa carrière, Orbison a collaboré avec divers artistes, contribuant ainsi à la richesse de son héritage musical, et notamment avec le supergroupe The Traveling Wilburys, qui comprenait également Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne et Tom Petty. L'impact de Roy Orbison sur le monde musical va au-delà de son succès dans les classements. Son registre vocal et son style unique continuent d'influencer des générations de musiciens.
