Attaché aux racines originelles du blues, Taj Mahal a multiplié les expériences en utilisant des éléments empruntés au jazz, au rhythm’n’blues, au rock et à la world music. Entre 1967 et 1976, il a enregistré douze albums pour Columbia. Ces Hidden Treasures étaient restés inédits à ce jour : le premier CD a été enregistré en studio entre 1969 et 1973, le second lors d’un concert mémorable donné au Royal Albert Hall de Londres en avril 1970.
