This is the 2000 debut CD by the Cajun band Charivari. The band's name is a reference to a tradition in Cajun culture in which celebrants throw a big party for the bride and groom on the night of their wedding. Their attendance is requested, but not required -- but dancing is; thus it is appropriate that the name of this CD is I Want to Dance With You. Dancing is an integral part of the Cajun culture, a pastime enjoyed by the youngest to the oldest members of the community. Charivari plays the music one might hear at such a wedding party or the Saturday fais do do. There are waltzes and two steps, sad ballads, and happy fiddle tunes. On this CD there is some traditional music, such as the title cut and "Jolie Bassette," but most of the material is written by bandmembers Randy Vidrine and Mitchell Reed. Put on "The Monkey and the Fiddle" and find someone who wants to dance with you.
