SahBabii

Perseverance and a distinctive way with light melodies pushed SahBabii out of the Atlanta rap underground. His dreamy brand of melodic trap stands out due to his truly bizarre lyrics, which are often preoccupied with sex and/or animals, particularly sea creatures. He broke through with "Pull Up with Ah Stick," a track from his 2016 mixtape S.A.N.D.A.S., and continued to refine his surreal sound on further releases such as 2020's Barnacles and 2021's Do It for Demon. Born Saaheem Valdery, SahBabii was raised in Chicago until the age of 13, when his family moved south. Inspired by the activity in his new environment -- especially the output of Young Thug -- SahBabii made tentative steps with a couple mixtapes, Pimpin Ain't Easy and Glocks & Thots, released during his early teen years. Tepid reception left SahBabii dispirited, but after an extended break from recording, the rapper returned at the tail-end of 2016 with S.A.N.D.A.S., his third mixtape, with production from his brother T3. The tape's "Pull Up with Ah Stick," featuring Loso Loaded, exemplified SahBabii's refined synthesis of gunplay threats and candy-coated hooks. The track was licensed to major-label Warner Bros. and released commercially the following April. In 2018, he issued the singles "Outstanding" with 21 Savage, "Watery," and "7 Squids" featuring R. Kelly, as well as the mixtape Squidtastic. An EP titled 3P appeared in 2019, and full-length Barnacles arrived in 2020. Additionally, SahBabii released a single titled "Gates to the Sun" (featuring Joji), and guested on Trippie Redd's "Amazinggg." Inspired by the death of a close childhood friend, the full-length Do It for Demon arrived in 2021.
