L. Spenser Smith
Raised in a religious and musical household, Bishop L. Spenser Smith started his path in gospel music while he was a child. While attending Florida A&M, he was a member of the university's Marching 100 and directed the FAMU Gospel Choir. During his mid-twenties, he followed his father-in-law as the pastor of Tuscaloosa, Alabama's New Testament Church. Before he turned 30, he was consecrated as a bishop, and soon thereafter he founded Birmingham, Alabama's Impact House. Smith has been active as a composer, arranger, and recording artist since 1996, including collaborations with Twinkie Clark-Terrell, Marvin Sapp, and Hart Ramsey. Along with his choir Testament, he has released the "neo-soul gospel" albums Assignment No. 1 (2004) and Statement (2006). Unstoppable (2014), a number four hit on Billboard's Gospel Albums chart, was his first solo full-length.
