Amy Allen

Amy Allen uses the songwriting skills she developed as a go-to hitmaker in her own indie folk-pop music. By the time she released her first EP, the Maine native had amassed an impressive clutch of hits for A-list pop stars like Harry Styles, Halsey, and Selena Gomez. Allen's own music, on singles like "Queen of Silver Linings" and "What a Time to Be Alive," trends more toward an organic, guitar-driven sound with a strong emotional pull. After her debut solo EP, AWW!, in 2021, she collaborated with chamber group yMusic. In 2024, she enjoyed a banner year with the release of her self-titled debut album, which arrived a month after Sabrina Carpenter's breakout chart-topper Short n' Sweet, on which Allen co-wrote every song. In 2025 she became the first woman to win the Grammy Award for Songwriter of the Year.Born in South Portland and raised in Windham, Maine, Allen's musical gifts were apparent from a young age; she served as the bassist in her sister's cover band while still in elementary school. Exposure to everything from classic rock and '90s alt-pop to bluegrass shaped her emerging songwriting talent, and she went on to study production and songwriting at Boston's Berklee College of Music. Among other solo projects, she led a melodic indie pop group called Amy & the Engine, who released a handful of EPs in the mid-2010s. In 2017, Allen moved to Los Angeles, where she signed with Artist Publishing Group and began working as a producer and songwriter. Within a year, she'd become involved with several significant acts, co-writing hits like Selena Gomez's "Back to You" and Halsey's chart-topping "Without Me." 2019 proved to be another banner year as she notched further big collaborations with Harry Styles, Pvris, Fletcher, and again with Halsey. Allen also signed with Warner Bros. and began releasing solo singles like 2020's "Heaven" and "Queen of Silver Linings." The Pink Sweat$ collaboration "What a Time to Be Alive" appeared in early 2021, followed by the solo tracks "A Woman's World" and "End of a Dark Age," both of which appeared on her first solo EP, AWW!, later that year. As a vocalist, Allen collaborated with experimental chamber ensemble yMusic on a 2023 cover of Nine Inch Nails' "The Hand That Feeds," then returned in 2024 with new music of her own including the dark-hued "Girl with a Problem" and the alt-pop "Even Forever." Both songs were included on her eponymous debut album, released in September. She found greater success, however as the co-writer for Sabrina Carpenter's chart-topping album Short n' Sweet, which won Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards. Allen herself took home the award for Songwriter of the Year and has the distinction of being the first woman to do so.
