Tireless, unflagging, evergreen... We could fill several pages with descriptions of the exceptional staying power of Toto, the pop-rockers who created the quintessential sound of the 1980s. Who has not danced or daydreamed to Africa or Rosanna? A guilty pleasure for the snobs, and simply a pleasure for millions around the globe, Toto's goal has always been to please the greatest number. According to the band members, their minimalist name refers to the Wizard of Oz, in which the word means "universal". In any case, more than forty years after their debut (in 1976), Toto, still under the leadership of Steve Lukather and David Paich, continues to sell out halls and stadiums, and they have produced a flamboyant live record here. With its twelve tracks gathered under a title taken from the Beatles, With A Little Help From My Friends has no other purpose than showing us a good time. In addition to the titular closing track, a beautiful cover of this legendary song, which serves as a testament not only to the Beatles but also to the superb version by Joe Cocker, we find Toto's great Hold The Line to You Are The Flower, by way of the arresting Stop Loving You, not to mention the mega hit Rosanna. There is something here to satisfy all Toto fans, for whom the adventure is far from over: in a few years these extraordinary Californians will be putting out their 50th anniversary releases. Insatiable? You bet. © Yan Céh/Qobuuz

The Dark Side of the Moon: An Astronomical Success

Pink Floyd's ground-breaking album The Dark Side of the Moon was the result of a long creative process that began around 1968. A Saucerful of Secrets (the main track from the eponymous album) was, for Nick Mason at least, where it all began. Their next album Ummagumma (1969) gave each band member the opportunity to create a solo piece, though they would have to combine their talents if they wanted to hit the jackpot. Pink Floyd continued to search for the perfect record with Meddle, an album which highlighted their skills in the studio, and Atom Heart Mother, before they reached nirvana with The Dark Side of the Moon. And the album’s perfection hasn’t faded one bit.

And then Nirvana Killed Rock

In 1987, Nirvana was born: the most unexpected punk swerve of the end of the 20th century. A rocketing career, international hits, hordes of fans and a tragic epilogue for this worldwide phenomenon. And what if Kurt Cobain’s band was none other than the last band in the history of rock? The ultimate generational phenomenon of genre, if not its last myth.

The White Album: The Beatles' Immaculate Conception

Here we take a look back at a record whose history is as complex as its content. The Beatles' legendary "White Album", which was their only double album, is now more than 50 years old. Listen to the 2018 widely-expanded re-release containing an abundance of previously-unreleased material on Qobuz.
