Serge Devant

Serge Devant is a Russian-born, New York-based DJ/producer whose clean, '90s-influenced house tracks made him a staple of club music in the mid-2000s. While serving as resident DJ at New York's Crobar, he produced a string of well-received releases for the Ultra label, eventually delivering a pair of full-length albums in 2009's Wanderer and 2012's Rewind. A serious back injury led to a redefinition of his sound, and in 2015, he sealed his comeback with "Fearing Love," a pivotal deep house cut which helped launch the Emerald City label. He remained prolific through the end of the decade, releasing several EPs and standout singles like "This Moment" and "Thinking of You." Devant's artistry continued with releases like 2022's Hush Hush EP and 2023's "A Little Bit of Love." Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia and trained in classical music, Devant's family moved to New York in the '90s where he became immersed in the city's vibrant electronic music scene. As a teenager, he frequented clubs like Sound Factory, Twilo, and Tunnel, soon landing his first gig at the latter. Citing influences like Jean-Michel Jarre and Depeche Mode, he recorded for a handful of small labels before finding a home on influential dance imprint Ultra. Subsequently, he began a gig as resident DJ at Crobar and continued to build his catalog, which included tracks like "Part of Me," "Sweet Harmony," and "Addicted," the latter of which appeared on his first album, 2009's Wanderer. His next full-length, 2012's Rewind, continued to honor the '90s sounds he grew up with and included a cover of the KLF's "3 A.M. Eternal," featuring vocalist Taleen. After a snowboarding injury to his back sidelined Devant for an entire year, he reevaluated his creative approach. His comeback track, "Fearing Love," was a sleek and incessant deep house cut featuring Damiano C and Camille Safiya that served as the first release from Hot Creations' vocal-led sub-label Emerald City. Devant followed up with a series of EPs based around tracks like "Always on My Mind" and "Waiting." 2017's "Thinking of You'' reunited him with Damiano C and Camille Safiya. His first output of the next decade was a pair of 2020 tracks, "Third Planet" and "Girl's Laugh." A 2022 EP, Hush Hush, saw Devant collaborating with Forrest. He returned a year later with "A Little Bit of Love."
