Raft
Christian Fougeron (guitar, vocals) and Pierre Schott (bass, guitar, programming, vocals) formed The Drinks in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) in 1983. Renamed Raft in 1985, the duo released the unsuccessful English-language album It's Growing Light . Raft then changed tack and launched into burlesque French pop with new wave and reggae influences. The change was radical and the success immediate, with "Yaka Dansé " reaching number two in the Top 50 in 1987. Raft then enjoyed an intense period of fame with "Femmes du Congo", which was also a hit in 1988. The failure of the album Madagascar in 1989 precipitated the duo's split in 1990. Raft reformed in 2007 for the RFM Party 80 tour.
