Quinn Christopherson
Alaska native Quinn Christopherson's intimate keyboard-, guitar-, and drum machine-based songs first found a broader audience when he won NPR's Tiny Desk Contest in 2019 with the passionate "Erase Me." Self-examining and exploring issues surrounding identity, his full-length debut, Write Your Name in Pink, followed in 2022.
Born and raised in Anchorage, Christopherson is the youngest of four children of Native parents (his mother is Ahtna Athabascan, from interior Alaska; his father is Iñupiat, from the Northwest Arctic). Storytelling was a key component of his culture growing up, and he had begun writing poems as a means of personal expression before he was eventually gifted a guitar at the age of 20. Appearances at local bars and open mikes soon followed, and over the ensuing years he developed a close musical partnership with songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Carpenter (later the subject of touring anthem and personal tribute "Take Your Time").
Christopherson first hit the national spotlight after entering and winning the 2019 edition of NPR's Tiny Desk Contest. He accomplished the feat with "Erase Me," a song about gender identity and presentation from his perspective as a trans man. This led to a record deal with Play It Again Sam, which released 2019's "Raedeen" b/w "Erase Me" on 10" vinyl the following year. The three-track EP I Am Bubblegum appeared in December 2021. He opened a tour for co-headliners Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, and Julien Baker in mid-2022, just weeks before the arrival of his full-length debut, Write Your Name in Pink, on Play It Again Sam that September. It included "Erase Me" and several songs co-written with Carpenter and album producer/recordist Nathan Jenkins.
