Prince Kaybee

South African house DJ and producer Prince Kaybee became a star of the country's club scene in the mid-2010s following the release of his hit collaboration with Lady Zamar, "Charlotte." His sleek dance tracks continued to find an audience with subsequent hits like "Club Controller" and "Banomoya" from his 2019 album, Re Mmino. Kaybee has also been remarkably prolific, releasing at minimum an album per year, including 2022's Gemini and 2023's Music Theory. Born Kabelo Motsamai in the town of Senekal in Free State, South Africa, he is the youngest of 36 siblings from his father. He found a job working as a DJ at a club in Bloemfontein and later bought a laptop and began to teach himself how to produce electronic dance music. Using the name Prince Kaybee, he began to establish himself, DJ'ing shows and landing tracks on various compilations in 2014. His first big hit came in 2016 with the Lady Zamar collaboration "Charlotte," which earned him several Metro FM Music Award nominations. His success continued over the next few years with tracks like "Yonkinto" featuring Zanda and his 2017 debut album, I Am Music. Kaybee's 2019 album, Re Mmino, yielded a number of additional hits, with "Club Controller" featuring LaSoulMates, TNS, and Zanda Zakuza being the most prominent. Following the Crossover Music EP later that year, he turned his attention to showcasing under-represented female singers on 2020's Project Hope (Season 1), a compilation that featured artists like Thembisile Q and Thalitha. Kaybee kept up his prodigious output, managing a new album annually, each one a heavily collaborative project. 2021's The 4th Republic yielded the standout "Umenitosha" with Polaris, while 2022's Gemini featured popular tracks like the dreamy "Sbindi Uyabulala" with Nkosazana Daughter and Masuda and "Breakfast in Soweto" with Ben September and Mandlin Beams. The following year brought another full-length, Music Theory, featuring the highlight "Fearless" with Pilani Bubu.
