Peter Frankl
The career of this renowned pianist began in the late '50s, when he won first prize in several international competitions. In 1962, he made his debut in London and in 1967, he played in New York for the first time in a concert with the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by George Szell. Frankl continues to perform with the best orchestras and at international festivals throughout Europe and America. He has appeared at the Edinburgh Festival where he played Benjamin Britten's Piano Concerto, with the composer conducting, as well as Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 and Choral Fantasy, with Muti conducting in a live, televised concert.
Frankl's repertoire includes the Classical period (with particular emphasis on Mozart), the early and late Romantic periods (focusing on Brahms, Schumann, Dvorák, Schubert, Liszt, and Chopin) and the early modern period, with extensive performances of Debussy and Bartók. Frankl is noted for his insightful interpretations and his devotion to historical authenticity. Frankl often plays chamber music with such well-known musicians as the Lindsays, Ralph Kirshbaum, Patrick Ireland, Kyung-Wha Chung, and Tamas Vasary.
