Miroslav Zbirka
One of (the former) Czechoslovakia's best-known and most respected rock musicians, Miroslav Zbirka was born in Bratislava on October 21, 1952. Having made his mark with the legendary bands Modus and Limit, Miroslav (aka Miro and Meky) Zbirka went on to a massively successful solo career that included work sung in Czech, Slovak, and English. With his first band, Modus, Zbirka made his first recorded full-length appearance in 1979 -- a self-titled affair for that band. He continued on as a prolific, popular, and successful artist, eventually participating in the recording of more than 20 albums, from the aforementioned Modus up through 2007's 22 x 2: The Best of Miro Zbirka compilation, which was a Top Ten hit on the Czech album charts.
