Mae Muller
Delivering relationship-driven narratives and messages of self-worth using her plethora of vocal styles, London-born Mae Muller grew organically into "one to watch" in the U.K.'s pop scene. After building a dedicated fan base with a consistent singles output, she compiled previous EPs into her 2019 debut mini-album, Chapter 1. In 2021, her song "Better Days" (with Neiked and Polo G) landed in the Top 40 on multiple continents and reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. She followed it up with singles like "I Wrote a Song" and "I Just Want to Dance" in 2022, both of which appeared on her first long-player, Sorry I'm Late, the following year.
Although music played an important role in the British singer/songwriter's life, it wasn't until age 18 that the Kentish Town-born musician started to write. Her first single, "Closer," was penned in her spare time while Muller worked at a local bar. After a subsequent run of singles including the Simbarashe-produced "Underwater," she released her debut EP, After Hours, in February 2018. Self-described as a "soundtrack to feeling good," the five-track project established Muller's identity, employing a varied set of production styles with lyrics reflecting on relationships and self-empowerment. This was followed in December by second EP Frankly; pushing in different vocal directions, the release saw Muller focus more heavily on voice, toning down the production in favor of softer tones and a greater vocal range.
In early 2019, both EPs were compiled into Muller's debut mini-album, Chapter 1, which featured three new tracks, including the self-empowerment anthem "Leave It Out." A string of single releases closed out the year. After the candid "Anticlimax," Muller linked up with Ms. Banks and Caitlyn Scarlett for "Drama," as well as releasing the October single "Dick." She opened 2020 with the single "Therapist," debuted live on tour with pop outfit Little Mix. The EP no one else, not even you arrived later that year.
Muller had a breakthrough hit in 2021 with "Better Days," a collaboration with Neiked and Polo G that reached number 32 on the U.K. singles chart and the Top 30 in the U.S., Australia, and Norway, among a handful of other countries. This time teaming up with Marshmello and Trippie Redd, "American Psycho" followed in mid-2022, with the solo effort "I Just Came to Dance" appearing before the end of the year. The latter cut and the hits "I Wrote a Song" and "Me, Myself, & I" appeared on Muller's debut full-length outing, Sorry I'm Late, in 2023.
