Jali
Named after the highest mountain in his Rwandan hometown, sensitive singer/songwriter/guitarist Jali combines the music of his African roots with the classic chansons of his adopted Belgian homeland to produce an intriguing style of acoustic folk-pop. Born Jean-Pierre Antouali in the Rwandan capital of Kigali in 1988, he moved to Brussels with his family at a young age, where he fell in love with the music of Jacques Brel and Georges Brassens as well as contemporary artists Tracy Chapman and Ben Harper. In 2005, he moved back to his birthplace for two years in order to understand the culture and history of the troubled country, a move that inspired both his pseudonym and his material. After signing to Barclay/Universal, he supported the equally well-traveled troubadour Bernard Lavilliers on his European tour and worked with Jean-Louis Pierot (Renan Luce, Alain Bashung) on his debut album. Featuring the Belgian airplay number one single "Espanola" and a track based on Alejandro Gonzélez Iñárritu's drama 21 Grams, Des Jours et des Lunes was released in 2011.
