Games We Play

Active since the late 2010s, the Los Angeles pop-punk combo Games We Play make punchy, uber-melodic songs with witty, relatable lyrics in the vein of forebears like All Time Low and blink-182. They initially vaulted to viral success in the early 2020s with songs like "Deadbeat" and "I Hope You're Happy." After signing with Fueled by Ramen imprint DCD2 Records, the group earned widespread attention for their 2022 EP Get a Job. They followed it in early 2024 with their full-length debut, Life's Going Great. Fronted by singer/guitarist Emmyn Calleiro, Games We Play formed around 2016 and began releasing songs independently. Although their rise to success took several years, Calleiro's gift for pop hooks and deft wordplay was apparent early on and after some fits and starts, they finally had a breakthrough. "Deadbeat," their undeniably catchy 2021 single, began trending on social media and before long they were picked up by DCD2 Records, an imprint of Fueled by Ramen led by Pete Wentz (All Time Low). Their first release for the label was 2022's Get a Job EP which, along with "Deadbeat," contained the spiteful breakup anthem "I Hope You're Happy" which quickly became their most prominent song. Tours of the U.S. and Europe followed over the next year ahead of Games We Play's debut album, Life's Going Great, released in March 2024.
