Ensemble Diderot
Ensemble Diderot is a French chamber ensemble that specializes in historically informed performance of Baroque and Classical repertoire. Led by Johannes Pramsohler, the group is known for reintroducing forgotten and unknown music.
Pramsohler founded the group in 2008 and named it after the French philosopher Denis Diderot. Its core musicians include Pramsohler and Roldán Bernabé on violin, along with cellist Gulrim Choï and harpsichordist Philippe Grisvard. Its debut recording, The Dresden Album, was released in 2014 on Audax Records and was also the first of four albums in the group's cities series. This series documents the national styles of Dresden, London, Paris, and Berlin prior to the adoption of the Italian Baroque style in all of Europe. In addition to chamber trios, quartets, and quintets, Ensemble Diderot also performs concertos and vocal music. It released G.A. Ristori: Cantatas for Soprano; Oboe Concerto in 2017 with soprano Maria Savastano and oboist Jon Olaberria. The 2018 release German Cantatas with Solo Violin featured a collaboration with bass vocalist Nahuel Di Pierro. The ensemble also gave debut performances that year at the Cologne Philharmonic, and at the Konzerthaus in Vienna. From 2015 to 2020, Ensemble Diderot issued ten albums, and it continues to record at a fast pace. Its 2023 releases include Sonate a quattro: Goldberg, Fasch, Handel, Janitsch, Telemann, J. S. Bach: A Musical Offering, J.G. Goldberg & W.F. Bach: Trio Sonatas, and the video album Enigma - The Canons of the Musical Offering.
