Chuck Hedges
A very talented if often overlooked veteran clarinetist, Chuck Hedges is an exciting player whose music falls between swing and Dixieland. He played in the early '50s with George Brunis, Danny Alvin, and Muggsy Spanier in Chicago. Later in the decade, he was with Dave Remington; in the 1960s, Hedges toured with trumpeter Dick Ruedebusch; and in the 1970s and '80s, he often played with Wild Bill Davison. Although he has long lived in Milwaukee, Chuck Hedges plays often in Chicago and is a regular at several traditional jazz festivals. He co-led a Jazzology album with Allan Vache (1982) and recorded as a leader for Arbors and Delmark (1992-2001).
