Blight

One of the many American hardcore outfits "touched" by the legendary Tesco Vee -- albeit this time in a less crass and more studied manner, Blight -- hailing from the metropolis of Lansing, MI -- existed just long enough to release a six-track 7" in 1983, open up for the Dead Kennedys, and, well, that's about all that Blight was able to accomplish in six months. Although an indeterminate number of hardcore bands came and went in a similar span of time in the heady hardcore days of the early '80s, Blight's miniscule output was part of the legendary canon that would go on to define the Midwest's contribution to the national scene. The aforementioned release, Detroit: The Dream Is Dead, would be re-released by Touch & Go in 2006 as an expanded CD set titled Detroit: The Dream Is Dead (The Collected Works of a Midwest Hardcore Noise Band 1982) and in addition to the original six tracks, included demos and the live set from their gig with the Dead Kennedys.
