Adam Deitch

A drummer and producer, Adam Deitch is a versatile performer, steeped in jazz, hip-hop, and funk traditions. A founding member of the Grammy-nominated jam band Lettuce, Deitch also one-half of the electronic and hip-hop production duo Break Science with Borham Lee. He has also collaborated on projects with John Scofield, Average White Band, Talib Kweli, and Ledisi, among others. The owner of Golden Wolf Records label, he has released his own jazz-funk albums, including 2019's Egyptian Secrets and 2023's Take Your Time. Born in 1976 in New York City, Adam Deitch was raised in Nyack in a creative household with musician/teacher parents who both studied drums at Boston's Berklee College of Music. Growing up, he was exposed to the many musicians who would frequent his house, as well as his parents' record collection featuring artists like Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, John Coltrane, and Herbie Hancock. From a young age, Deitch took drum lessons and developed a passion for hip-hop music. After high school, he carried on the family tradition enrolling at Berklee where he honed his funk, jazz, and rock chops, studying with noted teacher/performers like Dennis Montgomery III and Dave DiCenso. It was also while living in Boston that he co-founded the jam band Lettuce with fellow Berklee students. Together, the band has released a string of albums. After graduating, he continued to play with Lettuce and took over the drum chair from Steve Ferrone in the funk-rock institution Average White Band. This experience led to a bevy of live and studio jobs, including a tour with the Fugees. He also joined guitarist John Scofield's group, appearing on albums like Uberjam, Uberjam Deux, and Up All Night. He also formed the electronic and hip-hop production duo Break Science with Borham Lee. As a producer, he has worked on projects with 50 Cent, Redman, Talib Kweli, and Matisyahu. In 2010, as part of the Fyre Dept. production team, he picked up a Grammy Award-Nomination for Best R&B Album for his contributions to Ledisi's album Turn Me Loose. He also shared a 2019 Grammy Award-nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for Lettuce's album Elevate. Since 2014, Deitch managed his own Golden Wolf Records label, on which he's released his own funk-jazz albums, including 2019's Egyptian Secrets, which featured organist Will Blades, trumpeter Eric "Benny" Bloom, saxophonist Ryan Zoidis, and a guest appearance by John Scofield. The hip-hop infused Take Your Time arrived in 2023.
