Since the bulk of Montgomery's greatest recordings were made for Riverside, this collection could have been better, but there's nothing about this disc that suggests it's intended to be definitive. Instead, it mixes a few of the guitarist's most famous performances ("Four on Six") with classic album tracks ("Cariba") and some downright obscure material ("Klact-Oveeseds-Tene") that was previously available only on The Complete Riverside Recordings box. It's not bad, really, although fans will find nearly all of Montgomery's Riverside albums worth exploring on their own.
