Alice Zawadzki
Born in 1985 and raised in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England, Alice Zawadzki is a London-based jazz vocalist, violinist, and composer. Born to a Polish father and Anglo-English mother, Zawadzki took violin lessons as a child, but started to take jazz more seriously in her teens when she attended a vocal workshop at school taught by American jazz vocalist Lillian Boutté. As a violinist, she was initially known in classical music circles, but over time, her two separate careers merged and she emerged as a very unique artist who is labeled as jazz but operates outside the boundaries of the genre. She released her first album, China Lane, in 2014. The album was met with critical acclaim and was honored by BBC Radio 3 as the Album of the Week. In 2015, the album Lela was released, which found Zawadzki collaborating with jazz pianist Dan Whieldon. Her second official solo album, Within You Is a World of Spring, was released in 2019 and was praised by critics and fans alike. The album made many year-end ‘Best of’ lists.
