Slepcy

Ślepcy were a Polish breakcore duo consisting of P.Qrek (Piotr Kurek) and Desper (Marcin Stefański), whose music blended apocalyptic distorted breakbeats with elements of jazz, bombastic Wagnerian opera, and horror soundtracks. Similar to artists such as Nomex, Aphasic, and DJ Scud, their work blurred the line between breakcore/jungle and harsh noise, producing some of the most frightening, bleak music of the early 21st century. Amidst all the jackhammer beats and tense strings, their work nonetheless had a bit of playfulness to it, particularly on their later work. The duo debuted in 2000 with the Absent Opera EP released by kool.POP, followed in 2001 by the astounding And Again EP on DJ Scud and Aphasic's Ambush label. This was followed in 2003 by a split EP with I:Gor on Noize Creator's Suburban Trash Industries. In 2006, Ślepcy released a full-length album titled We Are the Newest Battle Models on Jason Forrest's Cock Rock Disco label. The album was significantly brighter and less punishing than their previous releases, but still featured a biting sense of humor, as evidenced by tracks such as "I'm So Fucking DJ Friendly." The duo's song "Super T" appeared on a split 7" single with Karl Marx Stadt (Christian Gierden of German breakcore duo Society Suckers) released by Alphacute/Hirntrust Grind Media in 2009. Since 2009, Piotr Kurek has released several well-received albums of experimental/electro-acoustic music under his own name, including releases on Digitalis, Crónica, and Black Sweat Records.
