Primes
Formed in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1958, the Primes comprised Eddie Kendricks (b. 17 December 1939, Union Springs, Alabama, USA, d. 5 October 1992, Alabama, USA), Paul Williams and Kel Osborn. Unable to secure a recording contract for their R&B-styled vocal group material in Alabama, the group moved to Detroit in 1959, where they became established in the black neighbourhood housing projects. They encouraged a group of female friends to form a sister group called the Primettes; however, the Primes disbanded in 1961 when Kendricks and Williams joined three members of another Detroit group, the Distants, to form the Temptations.
