Perpetual Motion
The idea for Perpetual Motion came about as a proposed date between guitarist Tom Carleno and violin player Josie Quick. Informing Quick that he had songs to perform for her, Quick agreed to meet. The duo soon developed a friendship and musical partnership. Taking the songs Carleno had and giving them a new direction sonically, Perpetual Motion started performing around the coffee houses of Denver and Colorado. The group's first performance was at the Conifer Country Affaire in July 1990. In 1992, the duo became a trio to record its debut album Ready, Willing and Able, which was released in 1993. Adding Chad Johnson on drums and percussion, the band also added bass player Susan Mikulich, but she didn't become a full-time member. In 1998, Perpetual Motion released Surfing On Cloud Nine, using bass player Matt Deason for the studio work. In 2000, the band released Christmas Time Is Here. They have performed throughout Colorado and the Northwest, performing their own music but also reworking other songs, notably Black Water by The Doobie Brothers and Josie by Steely Dan.
