Neighborhood Brats

Neighborhood Brats are a California punk rock band whose heart and soul are rooted in old-school, first-era punk, while they play with a tempo and intensity that rival those of contemporary hardcore groups. Behind the leadership of core duo Jenny Angelilo (vocals) and George Rager (guitar), the band issued a series of well-received singles and EPs and spent the early part of the 2010s touring the U.S. and Europe in advance of their 2014 debut album, Recovery. Despite several lineup changes and financial hardship, the group rallied to record a follow-up album and continued touring into the next decade. Their third set, Confines of Life, was released in 2021. Neighborhood Brats formed in San Francisco in 2010 out of the ashes of Angelilo and Rager's previous band, Roofie & the Nightstalker. Their eponymous debut EP was released in early 2011, and they followed it over the next two years with a scattering of additional singles and another EP, Birth Right. During this formative period, Angelilo and Rager moved between northern and southern California a handful of times and the band's frequently shifting rhythm section tended to reflect this. Around the time of 2013's No Sun No Tan, which collected their early material onto one LP, Neighborhood Brats began to pick up steam overseas and soon added Europe to their regular touring schedule. The EP Total Dementia was issued in January 2014, and the group began work on their first full album of new material. Recorded and released during a hectic period between several tours, Recovery eventually arrived that October. Exhausted from years of hard touring, unstable lineups, and the general rigors of keeping a punk band afloat, Angelilo and Rager took a hiatus in 2015. Following their respite, Neighborhood Brats returned to touring in 2016 and issued their follow-up album, Claw Marks, two years later. They continued to foster their European audience as well as their Stateside fans, and in 2020 completed work on their third full-length. The album, Confines of Life, appeared in 2021.
