Le Click

Assembled by German record producer Frank Farian, Frankfurt-based electro-pop duo Le Click served as a novel addition to the thriving Eurodance scene of the 1990s, with the unconventional pairing of Swedish singer Kayo Shekoni and stateside singer/rapper Robert Haynes proving particularly popular. Scoring a number of minor international hits over the course of their short-lived career, they made a high-profile debut with their first single, 1995’s “Tonight Is the Night”, which featured guest vocals from La Bouche frontwoman Melanie Thornton and reached #68 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Backed by power players RCA Records, the group were able to achieve a career high with their follow-up single, 1997’s “Call Me”, which reached #35 in the US and #38 in the UK. The group sprung into action following their return to the limelight, promptly releasing a debut album, also titled Tonight Is the Night, in July 1997. The LP was a commercial disappointment, peaking at #95 in Germany and failing to land a spot on the Billboard 200. Nonetheless, it spawned a third chart success in “Don’t Go”, which reached #62 in the US, before the band decided to call it quits. Shekoni went on to represent Sweden in the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest with her group, Afro-dite, while Haynes disappeared from the public eye.
