K.W.S.
The short-lived dance-pop trio K.W.S. derived its moniker from the last names of its members: dancers/songwriters Chris King and Winnie Williams and vocalist Delron St. Joseph. The three were initially members of another dance outfit, B-Line; K.W.S. was formed principally to release a one-off cover of the K.C. & the Sunshine Band number one track "Please Don't Go." The track promptly went to number one in the band's native England, prompting its subsequent release in the U.S. Fortuitously timed for release shortly after comparable club tracks from KLF, Right Said Fred, and Londonbeat crossed over to mainstream radio and became major hits, the house-flavored "Please Don't Go" shot to number six in October 1992. After a similar house updating of the K.C.-penned George McCrae hit "Rock Your Baby" scored in the U.K. but fizzled in the States, a single album, Please Don't Go (The Album) was released to little acclaim, and the band faded quickly from prominence in both its incarnations.
