Johnny D.
As minimal techno became the dominant subgenre on the world's dancefloors during the second half of the 2000s, German producer Johnny D's road to prominence came naturally. The son of Eritrean refugees, he became acquainted with music very early on, already DJing at age 13. By the end of the '90s, he had already made a name as a promoter, a role that was only enhanced when he became one of the co-founders of the prestigious Zoo, a nightclub that became instrumental in breaking minimal techno to larger audiences. Finally branching out into production in 2006 with a bunch of single releases, it was the dancefloor success of 2008's "Orbitalife" that truly broke him through into electronic music's elite.
