Jamie Blake

b. USA. Singer-songwriter Jamie Blake moved from Chicago to New York in 1994 to further her career, and immediately found the late-night bar scene in the capital receptive to her anxiety-inspired material. After cementing her popularity on the club scene, Blake made her debut for A&M Records three years later with the single ‘Runaway’, a commercial track geared towards modern rock radio formats. The self-titled album that followed was produced in tandem with Kolderie And Slade at Fort Apache Studios. Their use of antiquated equipment and innovative production techniques added greatly to the mood of good-humoured intimacy that dominated the recording. Despite this, and for all her personable qualities, there remained a thinness to some of Blake’s songcraft. For touring purposes, Blake, described by herself as ‘an idiot savant without the savant’, was joined by Drew Santisiero (bass) and Andrew Solin (guitar).
