iskwē

iskwē (born Meghan Meisters,1981) is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and activist. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, iskwē's music is known for its powerful vocals, blending elements of pop, rock, electronic, and alternative styles with Indigenous influences. iskwē's musical career gained significant attention with the release of her debut album, iskwē (2013), which was nominated for a Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year. Her sophomore album, The Fight Within (2017), further solidified her place in the Canadian music scene. It featured the single "Nobody Knows,"which became a breakthrough hit, receiving critical acclaim and garnering over one million views on social media channels. iskwē's third album, acākosīk, was released in November 2019. It won a Juno Award for Music Video of the Year for the song "Little Star" and was nominated for Adult Alternative Album of the Year at the Juno Awards in 2020. Her song "Breaking Down" was also recognized as a finalist for the 2020 SOCAN Songwriting Prize and the video PRISM Prize. Her fourth record, titled The Stars, was released in March 2021. It is a reinterpretation of her previous album, acākosīk, featuring new arrangements of six songs recorded live with a piano trio and an orchestral arrangement of "Night Danger (Lovers Mix)" recorded with the FILMharmonic Orchestra in Prague. In 2022, iskwē collaborated with Canadian rock musician Tom Wilson on her fifth album Mother Love and in July 2023 released “I Get High” which landed at number 46 on the Billboard Charts.
